An Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) integrates the information from electronic navigational charts and multiple sensors into a common display for maximum awareness.
The new ECDIS NX is an advanced ECDIS family with a modern, state-of-the-art design. ECDIS NX was designed from scratch under continuous user participation, making it the world’s first user-defined ECDIS.
All ECDIS NX applications are based on consistent user interfaces and offer an unparalleled intuitiveness in use. With tailor-made features, ECDIS NX effectively supports users and contributes to safe ECDIS operation and navigation.
ECDIS NX is the advanced ECDIS for integrated systems and multifunctional workstations. It is fully compliant with current standards and regulations and is equipped with functionality beyond the basic IMO level.
Naval ECDIS NX is a Warship ECDIS (WECDIS) according to STANAG 4564 Ed. 3 (April 2017). For special applications, the (W)ECDIS can be visualised on a 46” table display.

The main reason for accidents in global shipping that has been named in many investigations is "Human error” – for example, the false assessment of situations and subsequently wrong decision-making caused by a poor or inconsistent presentation of data or confusing operation. In designing the new ECDIS NX software, Anschütz adopted a new course of continuous user participation and user workshops in order to create an application with an unparalleled intuitiveness in use and function.
The ECDIS NX applications comply with the latest IEC and IHO ECDIS standards. Beyond this, ECDIS NX offers smart functionality to simplify routines aboard. Route planning, for example, is now a wizard-guided process and utilises intuitive principles such as point to chart and drag and drop for creating or moving waypoints. Advanced functions are also available to support specialised tasks at sea.
